Team
We are computational and cancer biologists working together on the dark genome, based in the Comprehensive Cancer Centre at King’s College London.
Principal Investigator
Dr Mohammad Mahdi Karimi
Senior Lecturer in Bioinformatics
Mehdi leads the Dark Genome Cancer Biology & Bioinformatics group in the Comprehensive Cancer Centre at King’s College London. His research develops visual analytics and machine learning approaches for integrating multi-omics data, with the aim of finding diagnostic and therapeutic targets and building predictive models for haematological malignancies.
He trained in biomedical engineering at Tehran Polytechnic (BSc, 2002) and the University of Tehran (MSc, 2004), and completed a PhD in Computing Science at Simon Fraser University, Canada (2009). He was then an MSFHR Research Associate at the University of British Columbia, a Research Scientist at Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre, and Head of Bioinformatics at the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences before joining King’s. He was one of the team leaders who developed the Epigenomic Data Coordination Centre for Canada.
